Webvan lugs a big dream

Article Abstract:

Internet retailer Webvan is a $400 million firm which intends to start its distribution business with food but will later expand to electronics and other products. Webvan's objectives are considered risky because it would be the first to attempt to deliver goods to consumers' homes on an enormous and national level. The company's start-up costs are considerable, considering the $35 million it spent on just the distribution center. In Bay Area market, the number of its customers and orders are increasing but its service has not yet become widespread.
