Net breathes new life into old concept

Article Abstract:

Several Internet firms such as Niphix, Direct Stock Market, Virtual Wall Street and Fairshare are helping people to research direct public offerings' (DPOs) stocks. DPOs can allow individual investors to act like venture capitalists. There were 321 firms that filed for DPOs in 1998 compared to 273 in 1997. However, Tom Stewart-Gordon, who edits a DPO newsletter, said only a third of these companies will succeed in launching an offering.
