Net stocks click as quarter's top performers

Article Abstract:

Internet-related mutual funds were the top performers for the quarter ended Mar 31, 1999. Science and technology funds jumped 17%, while telecommunications funds rose by 16.4% during the period. The top-performing three mutual funds were Nicholas-Applegate Global Technology (96.6%), Internet Fund (93.1%) and Monument Internet Fund (91.9%). The biggest losers were gold funds, small-company funds and utilities funds.

On-line stock brokerages Discover Brokerage Direct and Dreyfus Brokerage Services have lanched a service that would allow the customers to trade some stocks after the US stock market closes at 4 pm. The after-hours stock trading service is handled by MarketXT of New York. The hours are 6- 8 pm ET; 5-7 pm CT and 3-5 mpm for West Coast investors. Orders will be limited to 5,000 shares.
