New records of fossil birds of prey from the Miocene of Kenya

Article Abstract:

The study analyzes and describes new fossil records of three diurnal birds of prey, namely a vulture, a Goshawk and a Chanting Goshawk, as well as an owl from four Miocene sites in Western Kenya. The several results show that although fragmentary, the four species of Micene birds of prey help to confine the extent to which Kenyan fossil birds resemble their living counterparts occurring in similar habitats and hence act as indicators for palacoenvironmental conditions and habitat preferences.
