Nortel signs e-business alliance with SAP

Article Abstract:

Nortel Networks Corp. (Brampton, Ontario) has formed an alliance with software maker SAP AG (Germany) to jointly develop and sell so-called customer interaction software, which helps firms deal with their customers on the Internet. The alliance is part of the two firms' efforts to boost their recent moves into the e-business market. Under the marketing and product development agreement, Nortel's Clarify eBusiness software will be added to SAP's mySAP.com e-business portal. Nortel launched its Clarify e-business division in late March to sell hardware, software and services to help corporate clients conduct business over the Internet. Nortel, Canada's largest technology firm, expects its e-business unit to double its sales to $1-billion (US) in two years and help reverse the recent slump in revenue from Nortel's business customers. SAP, which has 12,000 software applications customers, has been struggling in the Internet e-commerce field and is trying to enhance its mySAP.com service in an attempt to boost its slumping profit.
