Notes & Comment : China: A World Power Again : It is normal for China to be a significant actor on the world stage. The West - the real newcomer - had better get used to it

Article Abstract:

The Western world in general believes that democracy is the only solution to China's problems, but a Western-style democracy in the highly populous and precarious China could be disastrous. Despite its problems, China has managed to maintain relative social peace during the recent economic transition. In future dealings with China, Western states will need to set aside self-righteous beliefs about communism.

Mexico's population growth, water shortages, and inability to generate enough jobs is likely to undo the nation, sending even more Mexicans northward. The degeneration of its central government may presage the decline of the U.S.
