Oil, gas-rich Alberta to lead the pack, CIBC predicts

Article Abstract:

According to the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, growth in Alberta is expected to be 4.5% in 2001, while all of Canada is expected to grow 2.8%. Lower export demand from the US is expected to result in slower growth across Canada in 2001. The Conference Board of Canada expects a 2% slowing in economic growth. The slowdown in Ontario is expected to be the sharpest, down from 5.5% in 2000 to 2.7%. Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta, the four largest provinces in Canada, account for almost 90% of GDP in Canada. Alberta grew 6.5% in 2000, and earnings were up 150% to $18.6 bil.
