Stephen Kakfwi, the premier of the Northwest Territories, is promting his province as a potential route for a new multibillion dollar natural gas pipeline in the Artic region. The alternative route would traverse the Yukon Territory.

Oil patch lobbying behind trust win: Ottawa suspends ownership cap

Article Abstract:

Ottawa had proposed to restrict foreign ownership of individual energy trusts to less than 50 percent in order to avoid tax leakage. However, Finance Minister Ralph Goodale has suspended the proposal after heavy lobbying from the Calgary oil patch, which argued that the restriction was an unreasonable constraint on capital from the US, and would curb the growth of trusts and of Canada.
