Taking on the world, Amazon.com unexpectedly breaks up with FCB San Francisco

After three and a half years, San Francisco-CA-based ad agency FCB Worldwide is no longer handling the worldwide $50 million-plus ad account for online retailer Amazon.com Inc. Amazon is reviewing its account with an eye toward worldwide growth and is looking specifically for an agency that has 'global network' connections.

Best Buy Company Inc. hired Starcom North America, Gateway Inc. chose Initiative Media North America and Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. has contracted with MindShare of New York, NY.

Three large companies, Best Buy Company Inc., Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and Gateway Inc., have selected agencies to handle their media buying and planning accounts. Total billings for the accounts are $575 million. Best Buy selected Starcom North America, Bristol-Myers chose MindShare and Gateway contracted with Initiative North America.
