Old Dream and New Issues 40 Years After Rights March

Article Abstract:

August 28, 2003 will mark the 40th anniversary of the March on Washington, 1963. African Americans and other civil rights advocates will observe the historic event that changed the US civil rights movement and inspired federal legislation to end major discrimination against minorities. Famous for Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream' speech, the march's influence has evolved during the last 40 years to create?new civil rights organizations while losing some of its impact for those institutions, such as the NAACP and the Southern Crhistian Leadership Conference, which have diminished influence and power.
