Ontario hydro gave contracts to high-ranking tories

Article Abstract:

Ontario Hydro awarded untendered consulting contracts worth C$361,000 to two senior Progressive Conservatives, according to the newspaper Globe and Mail. Paul Rhodes, a close confidante of Premier Mike Harris, was awarded the largest contract worth C$225,000, including a daily pay of $2,000. The other contract was awarded to Tom Trbovich, who received $136,000. Trbovich was a former executive director of the national wing of the Concervative Party. The energy firm denied that the contracts were political partronage.

Ontario Hydro splits into five companies

Article Abstract:

Ontario Hydro is being divided into five independent companies under a provincial restructuring plan. The five entities will include Ontario Hydro Services Co, Ontario Power Generation Inc, an electrical inspection operation, a new clearinghouse and one company that will hold a share of Ontario Hydro's debt amounting to around C$31 bil. Ontario Power will operate the 80 generating stations in Ontario.
