Taiwan has been the leading political-junket destination for Canadian members of parliament (MPs) since 1986 because the travelers are treated lavishly. The MPs claim the trips cultivate business ties between the two nations, but the acceptance of free trips by politicians create conflicts of interest.

Canadian National Railways has transformed under CEO Paul Tellier from a 'basket case' to a profitable business. Since 1992, Teller has cut 36,000 jobs and sold a half billion dollars in assets. The company is expected to make a profit of $455 million on revenues of $4.2 billion in 1996.

Drugs, deals and death: an informer says police forces have failed to protect him

Article Abstract:

An informant known by the name 'John' is suing Canadian and Ontario authorities because he says they did not protect his identity after he turned a witness for the prosecution. Two other drug informants have recently been murdered, and 'John' has already received death threats.
