Many towns in Newfoundland's Conception Bay North region hope to replace fishing with tourism as the principal industry, but media attention given to the relatively high incidence of HIV infection in the area could hinder this effort. The Red Cross will no longer collect blood in the region.

Many residents of the town of Elkford, British Columbia, have pledged to picket the home of convicted child molester Roger Bourgeois until Bourgeois agrees to move out of town. The Elkford picketers are part of a broader movement to pass community notification laws regarding sex offenders.

Young and dangerous: brutal murders in Edmonton and Montreal reignite the debate over teenage criminals

Article Abstract:

There were renewed calls for modifications to Canada's Young Offenders Act after two separate incidents of violence were committed by teenagers in Apr 1995. A cab driver and a grandmother were killed in Montreal, and a minister and his wife were beaten to death in Edmonton.
