Beginnings of a Universal Payment System

Article Abstract:

Electronic banking and electronic payment systems originate with the automated teller machine (ATM). Bank marketing managers viewed ATMs as a product and a service, not as a means of delivery. Once the competition had established their advantage, bank marketing managers recognized that a network of electronic payment services offered a product and a service that consumers wanted. A true universal payment service will in all probability be impossible. The financial institutions and retailers will have to accept the new point-of-sale situation. Current developments in point-of-sale are due to regional switches and networks. A national form of the universal payment system means consumer convenience and banking and retailing cost reduction.

Overcoming stereotypes

Article Abstract:

Sports competitions have been considered an exclusive male domain, even during the ancient times. Particularly in the 19th century, women, especially among the aristocracy, were considered too frail to engage in strenuous sports activities. Furthermore, sports developed traits which women were not expected to require, such as character, perseverance, strength and respect for authority. Since the 1930s, however, the National Amateur Athletic Federation has promised women the chance to participate in any sport of their choice.
