Parts shortage makes Palm computers hard to find

Article Abstract:

Palm is experiencing a severe parts shortage that has made the hand-held computer maker unable to produce all models of its products. Retailers and even Palm's own online store have been out of stock for weeks, a situation which could last for several more weeks. Palm CFO Judy Bruner said the parts shortage was due to the increasing production of cell phones which share the same memory and LCD screen parts needed to make Palms.

Dot-coms without plans die

Article Abstract:

Many Internet companies are experiencing failures due to the lack of sound business plans. A study of data from Market Guide for publicly traded Internet companies revealed that more than 118 of the 729 firms need 10 times the revenue they generated the past 12 months just to cover costs and break even. The study also indicated problems such as razor-thin or negative gross margins and out-of-control overhead.

Tech sales slow down overseas

Article Abstract:

Technology firms already suffering from a weak US economy are warning of a global epidemic, signaling a recovery that may take longer than previously hoped. Compaq Computer stoked worries on Jun 6, 2001, when it was the latest in a string of tech firms to warn foreignmarkets, especially Europe, of a slowdown. Hewlett-Packard has also announced that it may not even be able to meet estimates for flat revenue in 2nd qtr 2001 because Asia and Latin America, in addition to Europe, are weak.
