Playing the potential in Internet security; as businesses add online protection, a sector may rise

Article Abstract:

After the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the US war on terrorism, many companies that offer products and services tied to Internet security have seen a marked rise in business. The stocks of several of these companies, recently quite low in value, may see a resurgence as a result. Some of the recommended stocks are those of RSA Security, Network Associates, Internet Security Systems and Check Point Software Technology.

Software to help monitor finances

Article Abstract:

New versions of financial software packages make it easier to manage personal finances. Quicken, from Intuit Inc, is a particularly fast and easy program to use. Versions for MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows have recently been introduced. The program lists for $69.95, but it is widely available for less. Quicken includes various business functions, and there is a $59.95 add-on program called QuickPay 2.0 that performs payroll functions. Managing Your Money from MECA Software now stands at version 8.0, and offers the most comprehensive package yet from the company. Prodigy, the information service, accessible via a telephone and a modem, can be used to accomplish many finance-related tasks. Prodigy's Personal Control Financial Network functions as an on-line discount broker. Prodigy also offers BillPay USA: for $9.95 per month, users can do their banking using their computer and the telephone.

Some software to ease the chores of filing

Article Abstract:

Tax preparation software packages streamline the process of filing tax returns. Chipsoft Inc's $49.95 Turbotax Personal Tax Planner helps users decide which Internal Revenue Service form is appropriate for their circumstances. Turbotax is particularly useful in determining the liability for estimated tax payments. Additionally, Turbotax is useful for planning on the tax ramifications of securities investing. Andrew Tobias' Taxcut lists for $79.95 but is commonly available for $49.95. The package is available in MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh versions. Taxcut offers many of the same features of Turbotax, but has a more personable interface which some users may find irritating. Users of tax preparation software should be careful to always use the version designed for the specific tax year as tax laws change frequently.
