Prescription: cash only

Article Abstract:

Dr Vern Cherewatenko is urging patients to pay cash to save on medical costs. For instance, Cherewatenko says that patients will only pay $35 if they see a doctor for a sore throat, instead of being charged $79 if they rely on health insurance. However, there are those who remain unconvinced about Cherawatenko's plan. Among them is March USA Senior VP Kent Lonsdale, who maintains that employees only want a $10 co-pay when they go to a doctor. He adds that it would be impossible to ask employees to go back to the previous system where they have to pay 20% and an annual deductible.

Frustrated doctors rebel against insurers

Article Abstract:

An ongoing dispute between managed care organizations and physicians is beginning to affect the quality of health care being received by US consumers. After years of reluctant acquiescence on contract requirements and payment rates, a number of doctors are beginning to demand additional compensation, less hassles and more respect from managed care organizations. This has led to a number of contract disputes and insurer changes among physician groups.
