Prison health care: Multiple systems

Article Abstract:

A study reveals that as prisoners move through different parts of the correction system, like the juvenile detention centers, jails, and prisons, the health care they receive, if any, is completely disjointed. Of the 3,360 jails in the U.S., less than ten percent have any significant program to assist inmates in the areas of education, therapy or substance-abuse treatment, and the criminal justice system is not structured properly, as most of the judges have never been inside a jail to see what goes on and what system is working.
