Sun Media cuts 180 jobs from amalgamated firm

Sun Media Corp has eliminated 180 jobs in its amalgamated newspaper company as mandated by its new owner, Quebecor Inc. One hundred employees actually lost their jobs while the rest of the cancelled positions were attained through attrition. The job cuts were divided almost equally among the original Sun Media and Quebecor newspapers. Among the executives affected by the layoffs were The Toronto Sun editor Peter O'Sullivan and Sun Media chief financial officer Bruce Jackson.

Cantel Mobile Communications Inc is reportedly on the verge of joining with Toronto, Canada-based telecommunications company AT and T Canada Corp.
