Receiver says Pocklington owes more than he's worth

Article Abstract:

Peter Pocklington, owner of Pocklington Financial Corp. and Hartford Securities Inc. of Edmonton, Alberta, owes at least C$75.4-million to creditors. Receiver-manager KPMG Inc. said that Pocklington has debts amounting to C$61-million from Alberta Treasury Branches and has C$14.4-million in debts to other creditors. Pocklington's debts are far more than his companies are worth. Pocklington, however, claims that his Canadian assets are valued at up to C$130-million, more than any book value that might be placed on them.

ATB moves to oust Pocklington, rest of Canbra board

Article Abstract:

Alberta Treasury Branches (ATB) is set to oust all of Canbra Foods Ltd's eight-member board that includes Edmonton financier Peter Pocklington. ATB has assigned KPMG Inc to take hold of Pocklington's main assets and appoint new directors to Canbra's board. KPMG is also looking for a buyer for Canbra, a margarine producer, to cover most of Pocklington's debts.
