Regulators to start Intel lawsuit today

Article Abstract:

Intel, the semiconductor manufacturer, is likely to face an antitrust lawsuit expected to be filed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the fall of 1998. The lawsuit, which will likely allege that Intel withholds technical information regarding its products, is expected to act as a preliminary effort for a broader antitrust effort against the company. Intel contends that its practice of withholding information is not illegal. However, the FTC claims that Intel's domination of the chip market makes it illegal for the company to withhold technical information on its products.
