AutoNation car dealership aimed at Internet users

Article Abstract:

AutoNation USA will open the first ground-up car dealership that deals primarily with Internet customers. Prospective buyers can access the dealership's inventory from a home computer and view the a digital image of a vehicle. A sales personnel will bring the car to the customer's home for test drive. The high-tech used car store, which will open in Bedford, OH, on July 19, 1999, has been designed for computer users and features computer kiosks for browsing the dealership's inventory of vehicles.

Ugly Duckling fits bill for drivers with bad credit

Article Abstract:

Ugly Duckling Corp has been successful in its used car business since the company's launch in 1992. Specializing in subprime loan, the car chain caters to consumers with credit problems. While other subprime lenders experienced big losses in the mid-1990s, Ugly Duckling has emerged from a small firm with two dealerships in Arizona to a publicly traded chain with 77 dealerships in eight states. In Jul 27, 2000, Ugly Duckling posted record second-quarter revenue of $4.5 million.

Future looks bleak for used car superstores

Article Abstract:

Two used car superstore chains, CarMax Inc and Car America said the the concept remains popular and profitable amidst AutoNation's announcement that it will shut down 23 one-price, used car showrooms. Most superstores source their inventories from cars coming off leases or out of of fleet and rental sales. However, the sources started to dry up as automakers shifted their focus from fleet ad rental sales to consumers.
