Research in Motion wins pager contract

Article Abstract:

Research In Motion Ltd. has secured a contract to supply wireless pagers to American Mobile Satellite Corp., based in Reston, VA. The C$50-million contract stipulates that American Mobile will purchase the pagers from Research in Motion, through the next 18 months. Research in Motion, based in Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, now has an order backlog worth approximately C$130 million, as it previously won contracts to supply BellSouth Corp., based in Atlanta, GA, and Rogers Cantel Mobile Communications Inc., based in Toronto in Ontario, Canada.

Research in Motion to raise as much as $246-million to enhance position in pager sales

Article Abstract:

Research in Motion Ltd announced that it will offer five million shares so it can generate $246 million which it will use to improve its position as the dominant seller of two-way pagers. The proceeds of the offering would be used for acquisitions, sales and marketing operations, equipment purchases, product development and working capital. The offering will be marketed over the next two weeks but its completion and the price have not been set.

BCE aims to create Internet mega-site

Article Abstract:

BCE Inc, a Montreal, Canada-based conglomerate, is eyeing to merge Sympatico.ca and Canoe where it both owns substantial holdings. Sympatico.ca is 75%-owned by BCE through MediaLinx Interactive LP. BCE also controls 40% of Canoe, with the remaining 60% being owned by Quebecor Inc. The two sites are considered to be among the most popular Canadian Web sites, with over 50 million page views every month.
