Root beer battle adds fizz to soft drinks

Article Abstract:

A&W Beverages of Canada Ltd., a beverage manufacturer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, is losing the market position of its A&W root beer brand to big competitors such as Barq's and Mug. Barq's became the No. 1 beer in the market following an aggressive advertising campaign dubbed Barq's has bite. A&W started having problems when it was dropped by Coca-Cola in the latter's distribution network, and started carrying Barq's instead. A&W is currently relying on a handful of distribution networks across Canada.
