Saturn puts design focus on dealer ambiance

Article Abstract:

Saturn will remodel its 390 dealerships to make them more appealing to customers. The firm will refurnish the dealerships with fireplaces, aquariums, libraries and other features to make their customers more at ease and at home when dealing with their representatives. Saturn's refurbished stores will enable customers to discuss their purchase in open seating areas separated by partitions, or inside an office. According to Joe Kennedy, Saturn's vice president for sales, service and marketing, the remodeling of the dealerships comes as Saturn adds a midsize sedan to its lineup in 1999.

Blistering ads spark battle cries

Article Abstract:

Republic Industries Inc's advertisements for its John Elway AutoNation USA auto dealership chain have spurred controversy in Denver, CO, as other dealers complained that the company is destroying the image of its rivals. The advertisements, which stereotype two car dealers competing against AutoNation, prompted rival Rocky's Auto to launch an ad called 'Evil Empire,' aiming at AutoNation. AutoNation states that the commercials were effective and could be using the ads in other markets.
