Sears aims to clean up in home services

Article Abstract:

Sears Canada Inc. intends to diversify into the field of home services, as it also attempts to renew its brand consciousness that has long been associated with hardware and home supplies. Under the stewardship of president Paul Walters, the company plans to broaden its roster of offerings, to include comprehensive home services, as well as the supply of professional help and manpower, such as interior decorators and cleaning personnel. The plan comprises the next phase of a three-year, C$550-million corporate revamp which started in late-1996, and encompasses forays into the furniture and appliances markets, as well as into gas and electricity, and floorcoverings.
