Second strike may shut GM

General Motors (GM) employees at its parts facility in Flint, MI, have gone on strike. GM's 5,800 employees at the Delphi East parts plant have staged a strike and they justified their action by citing job security concerns. They join an earlier strike by 3,400 metal center workers who picketed due to GM's removal of their facility's equipment. GM's North American vehicle production is in jeopardy as it faces a near-shutdown due to the strikes. Analysts have also pointed out that a continued strike will not only affect GM but also the US economy as GM sells 31% of all new cars and trucks in the country.

Infrared sensors give Cadillac sharp Night Vision

General Motors' 2000 model DeVille features the Night Vision technology that allows drivers to view objects up to 500 yards away. The new technology that exceeds the reach of low-beam headlights uses the heat-detecting infrared sensors to help visualize objects in dark areas. Night Vision, which is expected to cost between $1,500 and $2,600, will eventually be featured on other Cadillac vehicle models, according to Cadillac general manager John Smith. The technology's cost is also projected to drop, he said.
