Should would-be journalists pursue undergraduate degrees in journalism?

Article Abstract:

Debate over the need for a journalism undergraduate degree includes the position that it is useful because the programs spend more time on liberal learning activities than in any other major. About 75% of course work is taken outside the journalism school. The opposing argument claims these programs should be abolished because undergraduates should major in fields that will help develop critical minds.

Student journalists fight campus censorship

Article Abstract:

The Supreme Court is trying to censor the article, by the editors of a college newspaper journalist, Margaret Hosty and Jeni Porche about the faulty and administration at Governors State University, outside Chicago. A majority of 58% voted that high school students should be allowed to report controversial issues in their student newspapers against the supreme courts order.

Student journalism: are First Amendment rights in danger?

Article Abstract:

The 1988 Supreme Court decision giving school officials power to censor public school student publications has not prevented them from publishing controversial articles. College journalism programs, however, face censorship from students who protesting against minimal and inaccurate coverage of minority student issues.
