Actors, agencies may have deal

The advertising industry has struck a compromise agreement with writers, directors, actors and actresses after six months of strike. The Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists staged the strike to push for the extension of the pay-per-play compensation system used for network TV to the Internet. The agreement recognized actors' rights to wages for Web ads. They will be paid a $1,500 flat fee for TV commercials running on the Internet for up to nine months.

Ad industry's growth will hit speed bump, analysts say

Article Abstract:

The US advertising industry is expected to fall by nearly half in 2001. The industry enjoyed record growth in 2000 and experienced a 7% to 10% growth to $250 billion. The growth is attributable to free-spending dot- coms, the Olympic Games and the presidential election. As the recession worries grow, however, the industry is expected to go on a downward trend by 2001, experiencing only 4% to 6% growth.
