Ads might show up on airline storage bins

Article Abstract:

Airlines are testing the use of the doors of overhead storage bins on airplanes for advertising-free spaces. Vanguard Airlines has placed its ads on one of its jets and is planning to utilize all 15 jets by the end of Jun 2000. Sun Country Airlines is also planning to promote its new Web site on its storage bins. Although the airlines promote themselves through the bin doors, the space is also being marketed to other advertisers. Other airlines have become interested in the advertising trend although they are still waiting for reaction from customers.

Sometimes, marketers fail to go the extra mile

Article Abstract:

Airlines fail to award frequent-flier points to customers due to the inability of marketers to credit the airline miles properly. Many companies buy frequent-traveler points from airlines and hotels and offer them as lures to attract customers. However, consumers get frustrated over the difficulty of collecting their rewards. Most of the problems are blamed on incompatible database systems, corrupt computer files and increasing partnerships.

Program changes irk frequent fliers

Article Abstract:

Business travelers and frustrated frequent fliers are creating Web sites to try to overturn changes in three airlines' frequent-flier programs and to post angry messages on bulletin boards. Deltta, United and Northwest airlines are changing rules to improve rewards for their most loyal customers. Travelers are upset over restricted seat upgrades, stricter enforcement of seat upgrade rules and no miles for discounted Internet fares.
