TLC writing down investment

Article Abstract:

Toronto, Ont.-based TLC Laser Eye Centers Inc. has announced that it will take a writedown of between $17 million and $20 million in relation to its 15% stake in Orlando, Fla.-based LaserSight Inc. LaserSight, which manufactures laser eye surgery equipment, reported a $6.5 million loss in its third quarter.

BioChem backs amended bid for N.A. Vaccine

Laval, Que.-based BioChem Pharma Inc. has supported a revised takeover bid for Beltsville, Md.-based North American Vaccine Inc. by Deerfield, Ill.-based Baxter International Inc. for $221 million. The earlier merger deal fell apart after regulators in the United Kingdom threw up roadblocks.

Aris Vision takes control of Gimbel

Aris Vision Inc. is purchasing Gimbel Vision International Inc. of Calgary. The agreement calls for the founder of Gimbel Vision, Howard Gimbel, and his wife Judith Gimbel, chairwoman emeritus, to exchange their 64% stake in the company, roughly 16 million shares, for common stock of Aris.
