Negotiations towards a North American Free Trade Agreement are dependent on the commitment of Mexican Pres Salinas de Gortari to free markets, and the consent of the US Congress and the Canadian Parliament. Industries that will be affected by the NAFTA include autos, agriculture, and banking.

Native Canadians do not like the fact that Canada accepts as many immigrants as it does (250,000 in 1992), but they mostly accept the immigration policy. The aspects of cultural diversity and lack of employment possibilities affect the attitudes of Canadians.
