TVA Group Inc dominates the television airwaves of Quebec, capturing 35% of the Canadian province's 6.4-million French-speaking audience. While the huge market share is partly because TVA has only two competitors, Radio- Canada and Television Quatre Saisons, TVA's carefully controlled branding has also endeared it to its audience. The privately owned network is now gearing to become a national broadcaster, which some observers say is a dubious move considering that there are only 1.8 million French speakers outside Canada.
