Target ads hit right note by mixing music, color

Article Abstract:

Target Stores has successfully combined music with imagery and color to come up with 'pop art' advertising that communicate multiple messages to consumers. For instance, Target ran several ads that coordinated with its exclusive promotional offering of Tina Turner's holiday CD. Advertising Dir Nancy Carruth said the Tina Turner campaign was the most integration they have had in their advertising. Its latest ads continue the color and media mix, but with Devo, rather than Tina Turner doing the singing.

Suzuki packs humor into ads for SUV

American Suzuki Motor resorted to humor on the spots for its new XL-7 midsized SUV. The ads show how impractical bigs SUVs can sometimes be, with the huge vehicles taking out traffic lights, crushing smaller cars or leaving women dangling from a high rear-door sill. USA Today's Ad Track survey showed that 21% of respondents liked Suzuki's ads a lot. Suzuki is positioning the ads toward women but the survey showed that a bigger percentage of males than females liked the ads more. S
