Actor Avery Brooks has appeared in several films and has been a professor of theater at Rutgers University, but is best known for his portrayal of Captain Benjamin Sisko on 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'. He was born in Evansville, IN, to a music teacher and janitor. Music was his first love, and he sang in school and church choirs. He earned his theater degree from Rutgers, and went on to achieve recognition as the title role in the play 'Paul Robeson'. He lives on the East Coast with his wife and 3 children.
