The historical background of the Communist Manifesto

Article Abstract:

It is important to consider the historical context of the analysis of capitalist economic development presented in the 'Manifesto of the Communist Party,' published in Feb 1848. The economic analysis contained in this book was significantly influenced by the insight into capitalism gained by Friedrich Engels in his family's cotton company in the period 1842 to 1844. Much of the economic and historical analysis in the 'Communist Manifesto' can be traced back to Engels's earlier 1845 book 'The Condition of the Working Class in England,' and this indicates that economic developments in England served as the model on which Karl Marx's analysis rested.
