Peter Cochrane, author of 'Tips for Time Travellers,' hopes that intelligent software technology will become as easy and automatic to use as turning on a light switch. He believes that wearable computers, including a smart card implanted usder the skin, will become common. He believes that everything people do will be recorded, so that knowledge will not be lost through death.

A federal inquiry into gambling is expected to address interactive issues. Australia's love for technology does not extend beyond mobile phones and VCRs to the Internet. A survey on information technology use reveals an estimated 9% of 4 mil home computer users access the Net, a statistic internet service providers believe reflects consumer phobia. Industry analysts see the costs of the PC, modem, and internet access as obstacles.
