The latest at the theme park: a magnetic attraction

Article Abstract:

The development of magnetic-levitation mass transportation systems remains elusive in the US because the technology remains unproven, except for some innovative amusement park rides in California. The first magnetic-levitation train system will open in Shanghai in 2004, but US cities considering it for mass transit are at least ten years away from implementation. The technology is most effective in high-speed, short-distance situations, but its reliability for moving thousands of people over long distances is untested.
