Article Abstract:

Renewed fighting in Liberia's civil war has devastated the nation and caused more than 350,000 people to flee to neighboring Ivory Coast and Ghana. Most of the foreign aid workers have also left the country, and incoming food is often sold on the black market. Children are used as decoys in the war.

Group of Seven leaders meeting in Lyons, France, were distracted from their planned agenda on economics by the terrorist bombing of the US military housing complex serving the King Abdul-Aziz airbase in Saudi Arabia. They endorsed a 40-point plan for combatting terrorism.

Article Abstract:

Netanyahu defeated Shimon Peres by less than 1% of the vote, and his victory will likely slow, but not reverse the peace process. The Islamic suicide bombing in Mar 1996, caused many Israelis to reluctantly support Netanyahu. Control of Jerusalem was a major issue.
