Tobacco use cessation within the context of tobacco control policy: Opportunities for nursing research

Article Abstract:

A short summary of the effective tobacco control policies and their roles in reducing tobacco use prevalence and consumption are described along with a description of the coverage for cessation under various health insurance policies and their outcomes on nursing practices and research. The importance of knowledge about and involvement of nurses in tobacco control policies and the significance of nursing research in cessation policy development and assessment which would boost the cessation services to an increased number of tobacco users are determined.

Nursing research in smoking cessation: A listing of the literature, 1996-2005

Article Abstract:

A summary of the number and type of publications posted on the Tobacco Free Nurses Web Site published since 1996 to 2005 is presented. The listing addresses the data-based articles related to nurses and their involvement in tobacco cessation and are meant to help all nurses in identifying nursing publications pertaining to tobacco control as the number of articles related to nursing involvement in tobacco cessation has increased eight times from 5 articles published in 1996 to more than 40 articles in 2005.

Strategic directions for nursing research in tobacco dependence

Article Abstract:

A summary of the suggestions by 42 researchers, clinicians, educators, and representatives from various organizations who had attended the one-day conference for focusing and fostering nursing research in tobacco cessation are presented. The new methods in nursing research on tobacco dependence and cessation, techniques for seizing opportunities and facing challenges and boosting the utilization of research findings into clinical practice are described.
