Travel agents call for airline legislation

Article Abstract:

The Association of Canadian Travel Agents (ACTA) is pressing for legislative action to save jobs and ensure competition in view of the impending merger of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines International Ltd. ACTA pres Ron Pradinuk said many thousands of travel agents will lose their jobs if the merger pushes through. The ACTA sent a letter to Canadian Transport Minister David Collenett which said that the government may have to reregulate airline prices in view of the near-monopoly condition which would result from the merger.
