Fliers benefit as airlines bypass hub airports

Article Abstract:

Some US airlines are beginning to add domestic flights that are bypassing their hubs, a development that some analysts claim signals the maxing out of airline hubs. This is seen as a positive development for passengers who can now choose non-stop flights that do not go through the usually congested hubs. Brian harris, analyst for Salomon Smith Barney, said that domestic flights that bypass hubs are growing at three times their rate in 1999.

Travel costs: expect to pay more to fly, stay and drive

Article Abstract:

Travel costs are expected to increase by 7% next year. The increase in travel costs are due to inflation, high demand and low supplies for airline seats, hotel rooms and rental cars. Airlines have increased their prices due to high fuel prices. They are, however, moving cautiously since they were criticized for record delays this summer and the government is monitoring customer service. Hotel rates are expected to increase moderately this summer while significant increases in car rental rates are foreseen for the rest of the year.
