Two record labels settle copyright suit with MP3.com; a new day may be dawning in online music distribution

Article Abstract:

In a settlement of a copyright infringement lawsuit, MP3.com is to pay Warner Music Group and BMG Entertainment $20 million each. In return, MP3.com will be allowed to store the record libraries of the two companies online and be able to give consumers access to them over the Internet.

Deal settles suit against MP3.com; online music service to pay record maker

Article Abstract:

MP3.com will pay Universal Music Group $53.4 million to settle their battle over copyright involving the former's online music trading service and the latter's music catalog. MP3 will pay hefty royalties each time a song is stored and listened to on its service. Universal will purchase warrants to buy roughly 5 percent of MP3's shares. MP3.com will be able to reinstate its My.MP3 service.
