FTC to block BP Amoco-Arco merger

Article Abstract:

Atlantic Richfield Co (Arco) and BP Amoco's $30-billion merger will be blocked by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC, which will vote on the union of the two oil producers on Jan 28, 2000, is concerned that the combined firm will control 55% of the total crude oil production of Alaska. BP Amoco, which failed to announce cuts in the level of crude oil that it will buy from Arco, said that it is willing to proceed with the merger even witout government approval.
