Using platyceratid gastropod behavior to test functional morphology

Article Abstract:

The platyceratid distribution is analyzed among 636 tubed and 675 tubeless crinoids from Mississippian strata in North America to test the infestation avoidance role of the anal tubes in North America. The results show that tubeless crinoids exhibit a very high infestation frequency and hence are supposed to be a more cost effective and cheap strategy than the drilling tubed crinoids.

Fossil puffballs (Gasteromycetes: Lycoperdales) in Mexican amber

Article Abstract:

The article describes 23 specimens of Lycoperdites tertiarius within one piece of Mexican amber, which exhibit various stages of maturity. The piece is dated between the Lower Miocene to the Upper Oligocene. Discussion focuses on similarities between Lycoperdaceae characteristics and those of the Mesophelliaceae.
