Wal-Mart's resolution for 2000: big expansion

Article Abstract:

Wal-Mart Stores Inc will open hundreds of stores across the globe in 2000, including 305 Wal-Mart stores and superstores, 25 Sam's Clubs and 10 Neighborhood Market grocery sites. The Bentonville, AR-based retailer also intends to roll out as many as 10 distribution centers dedicated to general items and foods. The expansion increases the company's Wal-Mart locations to 1,861, supercenters to 815 and Sam's Clubs to 478 in the country, while its overseas locations will expand to 1,074.

Ebay recovers from 4th outage

Article Abstract:

eBay, a San Jose, CA-based on-line auction company, resumes its operations after it was hit by a fourth outage in Jun 1999. The company discussed the matter over its Web site (www.ebay.com), saying there was a problem with its database server. Previously, eBay said its stands to lose up to $5 million from the lengthy outages. eBay and other online sites have made it easier for consumers to bid on goods over the Internet.

Net doesn't sit well with furniture stores

Article Abstract:

Furniture retailers are threatening to withdraw products from their inventory if manufacturers will sell online. Some manufacturers that sell on the Internet cite the growing trend of shopping online. However, most have dismissed the concept of online furniture selling mainly because of delivery concerns, service demands and the risk of breaking relationships with traditional retailers.
