Wanted: 30,000 - 200,000 professionals

Article Abstract:

The Australian information services industry is reporting a shortage of between 30,000 and 200,000 skilled workers. Similar shortages affect the US and other countries, slowing growth and jeopardizing development worldwide. Microsoft has a low rate of turnover among its employees because it pays high salaries and fosters a positive work atmosphere. The industry must work with educational institutions to raise awareness of the need for skilled workers.

Article Abstract:

Venture capital is once again supporting a resurgence for information industry investment. There was a similar rise in the 1980s, but it soon ended. Leading sectors in the current boom include networking, hardware, software and information services. Many analysts suggest the boom could be maintained by reforming Australia's capital gains tax structure.
