'Warning shot' on trusts set for budget

Article Abstract:

The healthy returns that the income trusts give to their shareholders, the fact that they do not pay corporate tax, and the low-tax financing they furnish to their parent companies, have made them a mainstay of the market. However, the federal government's concerns for the tax treatment of the income trust market might lead to changes in the future, and would affect investment decisions in income trusts.

Confidence plummets to post-9/11 levels

The Index of Canadian Consumer Confidence, compiled by Decima Research and Investors Group has plunged to 75.0, its lowest levels since the September 2001 terrorist attacks. High gas prices and concerns of hurricane impact in the United States are the reasons for this trend.

OECD warns hot economy could tip into overdrive

The warning given by Organization for Economic Co-operation and development (OECD) that the rapid growth of Canada, which would be overused, is discussed. OECD warned to avoid any additional fiscal stimulus in its semi-annual economic outlook.
