Weather warnings: Pacific warming could foretell climate chaos

Article Abstract:

Monitoring of ocean currents has given weather scientists an early indication that an El Nino current has formed. No two El Ninos are the same but droughts are already being felt in the Philippines. Other severe climatic changes expected, such as heavy rainfall, and milder winters, are discussed.

Messing with milk: controversy rages over injecting a cow hormone

Canadian Agriculture Minister Ralph Goodale, in Mar 1995, issued a one-year ban on the use of recombinant bovine somatotropin (rBST) until further research can be conducted. Critics say the genetically engineered hormone poses risks to animal and human health and would inflate milk production.

A better alternative: kidney patients praise a new kind of dialysis

Article Abstract:

Toronto, Ontario's Wellesley Hospital is testing a home dialysis system called nocturnal dialysis which purifies patients' blood while they sleep. The system costs about $23,000 per year, far less the $40,000 for conventional dialysis, and patients report they feel better.
