Ontario's new premier Mike Harris has little political experience has brought other men with no political experience into his cabinet. They are united in their conservative attitudes towards welfare and taxes. Proposed cuts in social services indicate Harris' Scrooge-like attitude toward the poor.

Toronto, Ontario, is the home to many immigrant groups such as Italians, Jamaicans, Chinese and East Indians, but the predominately white suburbanites still dominate Ontario politics. It is uncertain whether Ontario Premier Bob Rae's Jewish heritage will be a factor in the election.
